Our technology turns CO2 into mineralised water. It aims to neutralise large amounts of CO2 with the help of limestone and store it permanently in the ocean as hydrogen carbonate – a substance contained in natural mineral water.
In nature, atmospheric CO2 reacts with rain water (H2O) to form carbonic acid (H2CO3), whereupon limestone (CaCO3) is decomposed on the earth’s surface. Bicarbonate (HCO3−) is formed. Rivers transport it into the oceans – the largest carbon reservoir on our planet – where it is stored for 100.000+ years. This reaction occurs in nature all the time, everywhere and on a large scale. Unfortunately, time scales of natural limestone weathering are 1.000s of years.
