COMPANY

Planeteers was founded in Hamburg with a simple idea – to bring science and engineering together for measurable climate impact. Rooted in research at the University of Hamburg, the company grew from an early prototype built in a small garage in Hamburg-Eimsbuettel into a focused effort to translate proven geochemistry into practical climate technology.

Planeteers was founded by engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs in Hamburg in December 2022 – combining industry experience, ocean science, and entrepreneurship.

Guided by our purpose to turn the tide for a livable future, we develop science-based technologies that remove CO₂ where it matters most: directly at emission sources and within the ocean’s natural systems. We keep the emphasis on what can be measured and verified – pairing careful engineering with transparent monitoring.

What started as an experiment has grown into a mission-driven company building scalable, verifiable solutions for permanent carbon removal. We aim to advance a livable future for all – by turning rigorous science into reliable operations — project by project, site by site.

We envision a world where carbon removal is an integral part of global infrastructure — operating seamlessly across industries, cities, and coastlines.

By turning proven science into scalable solutions, we aim to make CO₂ removal as routine and reliable as clean water or renewable energy.

Our vision is to be a key lever for a livable planet — advancing a future where technology, integrity, and measurable impact align to restore balance to Earth’s systems. Together, we turn the tide from vision to action — building the foundation for a balanced, livable planet.

Award-winning impact

Our work has been recognized with two of Germany’s most respected awards for entrepreneurship and sustainability:

the Hamburg Founder Award 2024 (Hamburger Gründerpreis 2024) and the German Sustainability Award 2025 (Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis 2025).

These honors validate our mission to turn rigorous science into scalable, measurable CO, removal – with integrity, transparency, and real-world implementation at the core.

Partner with Planeteers to make carbon removal part of your operations. Our technology integrates with existing industrial and municipal systems, enabling measurable, permanent climate impact.

Questions & Answers

1. Who are the Planeteers?
Planeteers is a climate-tech company from Hamburg, founded by engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs. We turn established natural chemistry into a permanent and scalable carbon removal solution. Planeteers develop engineered systems that accelerate a natural weathering process to remove CO₂ and store it safely in water.
2. How do you remove CO₂?
We remove CO₂ by replicating a natural weathering process in a controlled, engineered system. Our technology modules bring captured CO₂ into contact with alkaline minerals. Through this natural reaction, the CO₂ is converted into stable bicarbonate, which can be safely stored in water. Since the process takes place inside a closed and monitored unit, every step can be measured, verified, and scaled responsibly.
3. Why focus on the ocean?
The ocean is the world’s largest natural carbon sink, already absorbing about a quarter of global CO₂ emissions. By supporting its natural buffering capacity, we help it store carbon more efficiently and reduce ocean acidification.
4. What makes Planeteers’ approach different?
Planeteers’ approach is unique because it delivers complete, verifiable carbon removal within one integrated system. Our modular units capture CO₂, convert it through a natural weathering reaction, and prepare it for safe storage, all inside a closed and controlled process. This all-in-one design makes deployment faster, operations safer, and measurement more reliable compared to traditional multi-step setups.
5. Is the process safe for the environment?
Yes. Environmental safety is a top priority for Planeteers. The minerals and reactions used in our processes are naturally occurring and non-toxic. Every site undergoes detailed scientific assessment and continuous monitoring to ensure full compliance with environmental standards and protection of local ecosystems.
6. Does it affect drinking water or river life?
No. We only operate in water systems that are not used for drinking water and ensure all parameters remain well within legal environmental limits. For every project, we work closely with our scientific partners and local authorities to model and assess each water body in detail, ensuring full environmental safety and compliance before installation.
7. Where are your projects located?
Our first pilot project operates in northern Germany. As we continue to scale our technology, we will expand to other sites in Europe and beyond. If you are interested in partnering for a future project on your site, please contact us.
8. How is your impact verified?
Our carbon removal is measured and reviewed through independent scientific partners and the verification framework of Isometric. Every tonne of CO₂ is monitored throughout the process and documented to ensure accurate, durable and transparent accounting.
9. How can companies work with Planeteers?
Organizations can purchase verified CO₂ removal credits or partner with us to deploy modular systems at their own sites. To explore collaboration opportunities, please contact us here:
10. What is your long-term goal?
By 2050, Planeteers aims to remove one gigatonne of CO₂ per year, helping to restore climate balance and protect the world’s oceans.
