Project OSTREA, 2026, Kiel, Germany
Commercial Plant under Construction
The project in Northern Germany represents Planeteers’ transition from first production to commercial-scale carbon dioxide removal. Located at Kiel’s wastewater treatment plant at the Baltic Sea, the facility applies Planeteers’ end-to-end carbon capture and storage technology at expanded operational scale.
Commissioning is underway, with production expected to commence shortly. The plant is designed as a commercial installation to validate long-term performance and operational scalability beyond the production stage.
Project Ostrea has strong political support from the City of Kiel and MEKUN (Ministry for Energy Transition, Climate Protection, Environment and Nature of the State of Schleswig-Holstein). The project “Ressourceneffizientes Alkalinitätsverfahren mit Ostseewasserintegration (OSTREA)” is funded under the Schleswig-Holstein Programme for Business 2021–2027 with funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
Why It Matters & Certification
